The Green Snake and
the Beautiful Lily
Goethe’s Fairy Tale
for Adults
A long-weekend of story, beauty, art, and conversation
20 – 22 July 2017
Once upon a time … there was a little hut by the great
river, which a heavy rain had swollen to overflowing, and in it lay the ancient
Ferryman, asleep, wearied by the toil of the day. In the middle of the night,
loud voices awoke him; he heard that it was travellers wishing to be carried
over…
“A good story has power. It can encourage you, it can
make you laugh, it can bring you joy. It will make you think, it will tap into
your hidden emotions, it can make you cry, it can bring healing, give you
peace, and change your life!" Jeff Dixon
This is a GOOD story – it is a story that shows in
imaginative pictures, the way in which a human soul can become whole and free.
So… be drawn into the mystery and magic of this
enchanting fairy tale, be touched and moved by the beauty, the depth, the
journey, and find places inside yourself that you did not know existed
.
.
The story will be told by Briar over two evenings, and
on the third evening Michael will share the deeper aspects of the story. In the
afternoons, you will be led to finding your own images from the story, to dwell
in, and dream into. Michael will then lead you through drawing and painting to
create your own personal art works. Please note – no previous artistic
experience is necessary. You will also spend some time in the beautiful gardens
of Sophia House, to enhance this experience. Your mornings will be free for reflection
and rest.
Back to the story …
Why can the Ferryman only carry someone one way across the
river? …What is nobler than gold, and greater than light? …Why did the Old Man
with the Lamp shout, ‘The time has come!’ when the Green Snake whispered in his
ear? …And why did the Old Woman have to carry three onions, three artichokes
and three cabbages to the river? …
As our time together unfolds, so will the answers to
these wise questions…
