Ethiopean Experience

In Search of Prester John

St Giyorgis Church

We will be sharing experiences with a slide presentation and stories of our recent travels in Ethiopia in our quest to find a connection between the legendary figures of Prester John and Lalibela.
On our way we visited four of the island monasteries on Lake Tana – the source of the Blue Nile, the ancient capital city of Gondar, and then went to the rock churches of Lalibela.

Visiting these sacred places included rich and profoundly moving encounters with the cultural and spiritual life of Ethiopia, with its people and their unbroken devoted connection to the origins of Christianity.

Date: Sunday August 28th at 4:00pm. Bring and share tea after the talk.
Venue: Group Room, Sophia House, 18 Firfield Road, Plumstead, Cape Town.
Cost: R40 non-members R30 members and R20 for seniors or students

To all of you who can be there, we look forward to sharing these encounters with you. For those of you who can't be there please click on our Blog Gallery for a little taste.

We have been asked by several people to lead a journey to Lalibela - we are looking into it. If we do we will let you all know. We are also contemplating running a three/four day workshop telling the rich legends, painting, doing the geometry, and sharing the deeper insights into the Temple Legend, Prester John, Voyages of Discovery, Adamaster and the connections between them.

 Upcoming Events

Together with Silke Sponheuer (Eurythmist), we will be offering a workshop on basic meditative exercises for supporting self-transformation based on the anthroposophical path of spiritual development, as given by Rudolf Steiner.
This will take place on Friday 2 September 2016 at Sophia House in Cape Town. All are welcome.

We will also be running some courses for the management group of the Butterfly Art Project whilst in Cape Town.
You are welcome to invite us to do a course or process with your initiative - we work out something together in the line of our KalloSophia (Beauty Wisdom) vision: soul and spiritual nourishment for adults.

At the end of September Briar is running condensed Projective Geometry courses Parts 1 & 2 in preparation for a full length Part 3 (moved from end of August to allow for people who could not attend on the weekdays in July).

Parts 1, 2, and 3 will all be offered within one week.
You can slot in at any level you wish,
but you must have done Part 1 to do Part 2, and Part 2 to do Part 3.
To begin with Part 1 you do not have to have had
any mathematical/geometry experience before.

Past Courses

Unfortunately we did not take pictures or ask for comments on Briar's Projective Geometry or Michael's Painting courses just after our Ethiopian trip. We did however organise the Foot of the World Conference - we can just show you the poster. If you would like a report on the Conference please write to Debbie Ludik: info@aswc.org.za and ask for the ASWC midyear Newsletter.
